Burrata is a pasta filata cheese with a softer and creamier consistency. It came into being in the Bari province, during the early decades of the 1900’s. Nowadays, it is considered one of the most tempting specialities of the Apulian dairy tradition.
Murgella burrata cheese is one of our crowning achievements with its entrancing and very fresh flavour. It is hand-processed by filling the pasta filata sachet with a creamy stuffing made of mozzarella ribbons and cream (stracciatella). Our burrata cheese won a Gold Medal at the 2010 World Cheese Awards, placing first among the cheeses in its category.
There are different varieties of this product in our catalogue: the smoked variety won a Bronze Medal at the 2014 World Cheese Awards, the only award in soft/semi-soft smoked cheese category; the truffle, mint and chive varieties are original variations and full of flavour, while stracciatella is the tasty and creamy filling of the burrata cheese, made by mixing the torn (“stracciata”) pasta filata cheese with the smooth UHT cream.
